Our story
It all started long before 1948
On 18 May 1920, in a small town in northern Jutland called Fjerritslev, a skilled carpenter was born. He was given the name Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen.
True to tradition, Jørgen followed his father’s footsteps and was an apprentice of his. He received his diploma at the Danish Technological Institute, where he was awarded for great work. Jørgen worked hard and dedicated, and it turned out that he had a natural talent for creating beautiful, high-quality furniture.
Jørgen’s interest in craft traditions grew and soon his old father could not teach him more. Jørgen traveled to Sweden, where he specialized in the unique and ancient craft technique, Intarsia.
Møbelintarsia: En historie om kvalitet og tradition
In 1948 Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen and his family moved from Fjerritslev to Bramming in Southwest Jutland. Here Jørgen started his small production of tables in his parents’ basement on Hellesvej. It turned out to be a great business, and just four years later, he and his wife, Lis Aakjær Jørgensen, moved to new and larger facilities, with an associated farmhouse, in Nørregade. Here the couple’s four children were born.
Møbelintarsia became a fast-growing family business where all children had to help. When the factory peaked, it had over 15 skilled craftsmen employed.
In 1982, Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen decided to shut down the factory and enjoy his well-deserved retirement with his family and grandchildren. In December 2007, Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen passed away and Møbelintarsia was a closed chapter in the family’s history.
The skilled and talented cabinetmaker was my beloved grandfather.
The classic furniture was brought back to life
The years went by and I grew up. On New Year’s Eve 2017, on a walk, with my boyfriend, in the Swedish wilderness, it suddenly became clear to me that Grandpa’s furniture classics were too unique to let go of.
With great joy and support from the whole family, I decided to resume production of some of Møbelintarsia’s designs under the name Intarsia Furniture. Since then, the journey, to this day, has proven to be an exciting adventure for the whole family.
It is with great honor that I present my grandfather Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen’s life work, which has also become my life work. The journey has been challenging, but also exciting and extremely educational. Having to recreate the classic furniture designs has not been easy, as my grandfather had no drawings. Therefore, I had to buy the designs that were not in the family’s possession, in order to recreate them again.

I know how detail-oriented and quality-conscious Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen was, and that has placed a great responsibility on my shoulders. Today, every piece of furniture is created with passion and the highest level of craftsmanship, where humility and the greatest respect for the original designs prevail. That said, it is also with great pleasure that we present his designs around the Danish furniture dealerships.
I know my grandfather would be proud of the work we have put into it. Not just by recreating the furniture, but also by the whole universe we have created around Intarsia Furniture. With my grandfather’s design DNA as a great source of inspiration, we continue to develop our passion and want to create new beautiful furniture designs.
The only thing I do not want to include in Intarsia Furniture is my grandfather’s modesty. Jørgen Aakjær Jørgensen’s story and name deserve to be told, and I intend to make sure of that.
